And Juliana Sciolla, Executive Director Stamford Cultural Development Corporation says, It is wonderful to finally have such a facility in town. Lakeside Pottery offers classes for the beginner, intermediate and advanced potters, adult and children using the wheel, hand-building, painting , glazing and firing. Those who have already achieved independence in pottery, can use the studio on an hourly basis - just come in and use Lakeside Pottery's wheel, kilns, slab roller, extruder, large variety of glazes and other equipment. Custom classes, summer camp, workshops and demonstrations for families and organizations are also available. Bachar uses stoneware clay as a canvas on which he draws detailed pictures using glazes and under glazes. His specialty is large pieces. I think it's the engineer in me, he says. I like to do the big pieces ; I do not struggle with them the way some potters do. He favors a dramatic look in which the glazes are mixed to create earthy tones. While he is passionate about his work, he says is equally inspired by teaching. It has turned out to be the gift of this, he says. I've learned that I have the ability to teach and make it very accessible. Lakeside Pottery uses highly qualified Pottery teachers and is affiliated with several local organizations. Some of the Organizations are: Stamford Adult Education, Stamford Recreation Department, Darien Continuing Education & Summer Camp Department, and Stamford JCC.
